Koinyra village
The village of Koinyra is located on the east coast of the island, 24 km away from Limenas and 42 km from Skala Prinos. The name of the village has Semitic roots. According to Herodotus, the Phoenicians reached the island of Thassos during 1600-1500 BC and they exploited large amounts of timber and gold resources of Koinyra. The ancient settlement of Koinyra was annihilated by pirates after the fall of Constantinople. In the village, there are remains of Byzantine public baths. Paradeisos (Paradise), the most beautiful beach of Thassos, is located 2 km away from Koinyra.
